Halifax County Colored Teachers Institute and Association Formed
The Halifax County Colored Teachers Institute held August 1–12, 1910 in Weldon drew many teachers, with 79 enrolled. Prof. John W. Byrd led lectures on primary teaching, citizenship, and morals. The institute closed with a literary program at First Baptist Church and a new County Teachers Association organized in Weldon. Officers include C. P. Anthony president and Fannie Hunter first vice president. The first association session will be September 9 in Enfield with a ten cent membership fee.

The Edgecombe county anti tuberculosis association was organized on Tuesday night August 28 at city hall in Tarboro. Mrs Hutt of Raleigh and Mrs Hollowell of Goldsboro spoke while Dr Phillips and Rev W A Stanbury urged formation. Dr Bass presided as officers elected J R Pender president Claude Wilson first vice president Dr James J Phillips second vice president Dr S P Bass secretary and treasurer. The group plans an active county wide tuberculosis campaign.
