Col Richard Benbury Creecy dies at 94 in Elizabeth City
Col Richard Benbury Creecy of Elizabeth City died October 22 at nine in the morning in his 95th year. A long revered editor and scholar, he shaped North Carolina journalism from Reconstruction through the early 1900s, founding the Elizabeth City Economist and authoring Grandfather Tales of North Carolina history. He survived by eight of ten children and leaves a legacy as a leading literary and political figure in the state.
