In the Police Court Wylie Carter erupted during commencement at the colored Graded School causing panic before Patrolman Jones arrived. Carter was fined five dollars and costs. Monoday Justice J. E. Shields fined five colored men Frank Vaughan Ernest Kurkling Sosey Steptoe Larl Dickens and Thad Knight five dollars and costs for disorderly conduct and being drunk on the streets Saturday night.

The Commonwealth reports the death of Miss Susie Register about 9 p.m. on Wednesday May 13 at her sister Mrs Dave Walston's home. Aged about 20, she had been ill four months and bedridden one week. Burial was Friday at 3 30 p.m. in the old family cemetery in Edgecombe county, with Elder Billie Staton officiating. The community offers heartfelt sympathy to the family.
The Democratic Judicial Convention for the Third Judicial District of North Carolina is called to meet in Weldon on May 29 1914 at 12 oclock to nominate a Solicitor for the district for the November general election. F R Harris chairman C O Redwell secretary.
A spelling bee is set for Friday evening May 22 in the Graded School auditorium. The event invites both curious and wise attendees and urges participation in spelling. A prize will be announced later. Admission is 15 cents.
Dr. O F Smith and Mr Roy Wooten visited Richmond Virginia last week in Dr Smiths Ford car. They reported a fine trip with no trouble at all. Dr Smith praised Fords, saying he would undertake a Scotland Neck to Utah drive in a Ford over any other car for certainty and ease.
J H Darden announces candidacy for one of Halifax county's Representatives in the North Carolina General Assembly. He requests the support of all good Democrats as the Democratic Primary approaches on May 2, 1914.
