Derek Estes won the 9-year division at the Ford Punt Pass and Kick event in Belleville on September 16 and will advance to McPherson on Saturday. Kirk Johnson placed third in the 11-year division.
Melvin Waite of Scandia is elected president at Cloud County Community College. Donna Nixon of Munden is vice president and Melinda Blecha of Munden is secretary. The college livestock judging teams earned three top places with John Marrs of Miltonvale winning high individual and a team including Eric Carlson and Tressa Jacobson earning second.
Jewell overwhelmed the Flying Swedes 48 to 8 with a 20 to 8 halftime lead. Scandia scored on a 43 yard pass from Rodney Zohn to Gary Loring in the second quarter. Jewell and Lebanon remain undefeated in the district action as playoff dates loom.
Edward L Kunze a well known local farmer died September 17 1976 at St Josephs Hospital in Concordia A tribute lists survivors including wife Geneva and family Members recalled a life linked to Scandia and area farming with memories of the post office trains and local businesses in the Valley and surrounding towns.
