Large Taxpayers Class I railroads of Kansas have paid a total of 207,895,617.00 in taxes to local and state governments since 1900. Since 1860 the railroads have been the state's largest tax revenue source. It is estimated they funded education for 42,800 Kansas boys and girls in 1938.
Women who change their names by marriage or otherwise may have the change recorded on their operators licenses without extra charge by sending them to the Vehicle Department.

Members of the high school faculty spent Wednesday evening October 18 advancing the progress of recataloguing the school library.
The annual HI Y District meeting was held October 20 at Jewell. Mr. Lemon, Mr. Rogers and nine boys of the group attended, outlining plans and activities for the upcoming year.
Thirty five neighbors and 11 teams gathered Monday afternoon to shuck 200 bushels of corn for E W Burns. The effort was sponsored by the Masons as Burns has been ill for two months.
Mrs Eva Sothers and Doris along with Mrs Belle Etter and Mrs Alvin Peterson were guests of Mrs Carl Veteto last Sunday afternoon.

A comedy drama starring Irene Dunne and Fred MacMurray screens this Saturday and Sunday at the Princess. The film follows a prizefighter torn between his ring career and family life as distance grows with time and tragedy looms, offering a hard to forget lesson for mothers fathers and sons.
The annual Republic County corn husking contest drew a large crowd on the Smith farm near Scandia. George Myers won first place with 1301 pounds, Carl Rieger second with 1300 pounds, followed by Axel Jensen, Glenn Erickson, and Glen Jakabosky as top finishers. Sponsors L H Rucker and Glenn Snapp praised the event's success.
