Obituary of Elna Jensen a Swedish immigrant resident
Elna Jensen born October 3 1833 in Asarum Blekingelan Sweden married to Lave Nelson in 1854. They had nine children. five died in infancy. Daughter Anna died 1892 and husband died 1900, son August perished. Arrived in America fall 1888 and settled in Scandia. Died May 2 at her daughter Nellie Nelson's home at age 86 years 7 months and days. Survived by daughter Nellie of this place son John of Colorado Springs five grandchildren sister in Hallack Minnesota brother in McGregor Canada and many relatives.

Seventy three? No. Twenty three seniors at Seands High School prepare a momentous week starting May 16 with a Baccalaureate address by Rev. Cortner at Swedish Lutheran church at 8 pm. The Tuesday program features salutatory by Jennie Werner and class history by Lawrence Nimocks and more including a Jamestown versus Scandia basketball game and a Kansas State Agricultural College speaker on Wednesday.

Evangeline Screen Drama Returns To Princess Theatre
Due to bad sight lines from worn seats, the William Fox production of Evangeline based on Longfellow’s immortal poem will be shown again at the Princess next Tuesday May 12. A special matinee is planned for West End county high school pupils. A Bilingson, Wim Danielson and A Nelson traveled to Belleville on business Monday afternoon.

Scandia plans a five day chautauqua around August 14 with two daily programs, a junior chautauqua opening day, and attractions including quartets lecturers Hawaiian entertainers novelty numbers and a New York cast performing The Brat a New York comedy.

Free Legion show and box supper at city hall Friday
Albert Isaacson Post 249 offers a free evening at city hall this Friday to raise funds for new quarters in the Kalmd a building. The program includes songs, talks on the Legion, solos, pantomime, tableaux, a two reel comedy, and a box sale. May 7 marked last day of school in First Superior Dist 84 with a class ice cream treat and a short program by Frances Fickel and pupils. Helen Johnson as May Queen led the May Day activities concluding the year’s happy events through community cooperation.

Dance Postponed For Miller Skating Rink Opening
The cancer which was to have opened Miller's skating rink has been postponed until Tuesday May 18. The Legion boys worked hard for a big success and weather is hoped to be favorable next week. A heavy hail with rain Wednesday afternoon about four miles north of Courtland caused much damage to wheat and orchards. Special sale on oils at the Scandia Mere See ad.
