Amana Lutheran Church Marks 50th Anniversary at Scandia
The Amana Lutheran church in Scandia celebrated its 50th anniversary with favorable weather and strong attendance. Speaking guests included Dr. Lindquist, Rev. Lundgren, Dr. Olson, Dr. Pihlblad, Rev. Segerhammar, Rev. Swanson, and A. Segerhammar. The event featured sermons, discussions on gospel outreach, memorial services, music by the church choir and Scandia male quartet, and a nearly $100 donation to cover expenses. Five hundred attended, and volunteers served dinners to all.

Cement Plant Expansion At Smith Center
Rickel and Shivvers cement dealers have bought land at Smith Center to establish another cement products plant. W P Shivvers and crew began site work, securing property beside side tracks for efficient shipping. The firm, expanding to meet western demand, mainly produces bridge tiling from one to five feet diameter and has contracts across Smith and counties west. They employ six to eight workers locally and will install a river sand pump to feed the mixer.

New Gas Station Opens On Main Street In Scandia
Doctor and Coleman open a modern gasoline station at Washinon and Main opposite the Bank of Scandia. The site features cement walks, a pebble dashed stucco building, gravity pump, free air and water service, Otis greases, bright lighting, and a ladies rest room. The owners, Robert Doctor and H E Coleman, have funded the project as a boost to town improvements and will continue truck deliveries to the country.
