Ordinance 215 regulates fireworks in Scandia. It bans sale before July 1 and after July 4. Firework use is permitted only on July 4. Violations are a misdemeanor with up to 50 fine and jail. State law extends penalties in the town fire zone within 250 feet of main street or other businesses.

Tractor accident injures Harvey Hammer in Concordia
Harvey Hammer parked a gear engaged tractor on a hill and exited to open a gate. The tractor rolled into a ditch, overturned, and crushed his foot, breaking a large bone. Neighbors aided and he was taken to St. Joseph hospital where the foot was cast. The tractor caught fire and was a total loss.
