Weather Notes On Front Range Sees Rain Spurs Delays

More normal weather returns as aures rise and south winds blow. Clearing skies from last week were interrupted by a Friday night shower bringing nearly an inch of additional moisture. Cooler weekend with lows around 50s. fields remain wet, farm work resumes, and late crop planting recommences.

Loucks Is New Extension Forester At KSU

William L. Loucks becomes Extension forester at Kansas State University working on rural fire training. He will train 225 rural fire districts in 103 Kansas counties in firefighting techniques, equipment maintenance, safety, and district procedures. Loucks, CSU 1968 graduate, previously served four years with the Army Corps of Engineers.

Mr and Mrs Vic Berggren returned last week from several weeks in Clovis New Mexico and other places. Kevin remained longer with grandparents Mr and Mrs Larry Hammer. Mike and Darrell came Monday from Sacramento California for a few days visit with his mother Mrs Jos Hammer and other relatives. Juniors Turn Back Cuba For First Win In Week

Scandia American Legion juniors play three of four home games from Wednesday to Sunday. Duane Gile pitched all seven innings in the 21 win over Cuba, while Anderson of Cuba allowed three Scandia hits and struck out 12. Concordia edged Scandia 2-0 Sunday as Schmitz fanned 10 and Richard Raney had Scandia’s lone hit. The Juniors visit Smith Center Friday and Beloit Sunday at 7 00 p.m. at the Osborn Invitational.

Former Scandian Aids Korean Orphans Dormitory from Crates

Lloyd Wetzel of Northrup Ventura Beverly Hills aided 88 orphans near Seoul by building a dormitory from discarded packing crates with help from the 6314th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Osan Korea. Military and civilian personnel supplied clothing and support as Wetzel plans to return to Korea after months in Okinawa and Taiwan.

OES Scandia Chapter Hosts Star Bouquet Ceremony

OES Scandia Chapter No. 481 held a Tuesday meeting at 8 p.m. with Worthy Matron Mrs. George Chase and Worthy Patron George Chase presiding. Guests included District Aide Sylvia Weaver and reception of Wyoming Grand Representative Mrs. Ross Swenson, plus gifts to several officers. The Obligation was recited, songs performed, district talks given, followed by a potluck lunch prepared by local families.

Social Security Notes Change Day for Belleville Visit

A Social Security Administration representative will visit Belleville Kansas on Wednesday July 5 1967. Call at the Courthouse Welfare Office from 10:00 to 2:00 for information. Farmers employing extra help this summer must deduct social security tax and report wages to the IRS if wages reach 150 or more cash in a year or if a worker is paid on 20 or more days for cash wages. Reports due at year end with tax due. Forms available through the District Director of Internal Revenue.

Hospital News: Local Patients Released or Homebound

Rhonda Hall returned home from Republic County Hospital after surgery. Robert Scrivner was discharged and went back to Belleville Home. Mrs J E Freed came home June 21 after St Joseph Hospital care in Concordia. Grace Kallman was dismissed from Republic County Hospital and is cared for at a private Belleville home.
