More normal weather returns as aures rise and south winds blow. Clearing skies from last week were interrupted by a Friday night shower bringing nearly an inch of additional moisture. Cooler weekend with lows around 50s. fields remain wet, farm work resumes, and late crop planting recommences.
Mrs Frank Isaacson entertained with coffee on Friday to honor the 91st birthday of Dr C V Haggman. Guests included Dr C V Haggman Miss Blanche Haggman Miss Mabel Haggman Mrs Russell Anderson Mrs Oscar Linden Mrs Ebba Naslund Mrs Elsie Berggren Mrs Warren Johnson Mr and Mrs Charlie Johnson Mrs Rueben Johnson Mr and Mrs Carl Hammer and Mrs Alice Hammer.
Republic county gains 7826 as G R Sutton of Western Power and Gas presents a tax payment for 1966 Ad Valorem taxes. WP&G, investor owned, paid 1 400 254 in 1966 across Kansas, supporting school districts and local governments.
Mrs Ebba Naslund of Denver visited Mrs Millie Linden and relatives. Don Berrier Cynthia and a Thompson spent Sunday afternoon with Mr and Mrs George Hicks in Bennington. Mr and Mrs Alfred Swanson visitors Thursday evening and other local families hosted dinners and luncheons at Bel Villa Belleville and Concordia. Support Home Town Business.
Governor Docking proclaims July as Kansas Wheat Month with the Kansas Wheat Commission as sponsor. The observance highlights wheat’s economic role and includes queen selections, features in media, and programs on radio and TV.
William L. Loucks becomes Extension forester at Kansas State University working on rural fire training. He will train 225 rural fire districts in 103 Kansas counties in firefighting techniques, equipment maintenance, safety, and district procedures. Loucks, CSU 1968 graduate, previously served four years with the Army Corps of Engineers.
Mr and Mrs Vic Berggren returned last week from several weeks in Clovis New Mexico and other places. Mr and Mrs Francis McGregor and children Denver spent Wednesday to Friday with Mr and Mrs yd McGregor after a visit with relatives near the East Coast including their uncle Clarence McGregor at Chapel Hill NC. Kevin remained longer with grandparents Mr and Mrs Larry Hammer. Mike and Darrell came Monday from Sacramento California for a few days visit with his mother Mrs Jos Hammer and other relatives. Mrs Grace Robison visiting this week at the Robison home.
Scandia American Legion juniors play three of four home games from Wednesday to Sunday. Duane Gile pitched all seven innings in the 21 win over Cuba, while Anderson of Cuba allowed three Scandia hits and struck out 12. Concordia edged Scandia 2-0 Sunday as Schmitz fanned 10 and Richard Raney had Scandia’s lone hit. The Juniors visit Smith Center Friday and Beloit Sunday at 7 00 p.m. at the Osborn Invitational.
The Musk Thistle is widespread in Republic County with purple flowers visible in pastures fields and yards. Officials urge cutting hauling burning or spraying with 2 4 D at 1 to 2 pounds per acre in May and October to curb seed spread and protect neighboring areas.
Darlene Nystrom of Omaha visited weekend with Mr and Mrs Reynold Nystrom and Carole Ann. Mr and Mrs Earl Tebow and several Linden Lauritizen Carlgren households attended the event.
Lloyd Wetzel of Northrup Ventura Beverly Hills aided 88 orphans near Seoul by building a dormitory from discarded packing crates with help from the 6314th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Osan Korea. Military and civilian personnel supplied clothing and support as Wetzel plans to return to Korea after months in Okinawa and Taiwan.
Ralph Moe delivered the season's first wheat to the Johnson and Larson elevator. Moisture measured 14.70 percent with a test weight of 62 pounds per bushel.
The Rev. Melvin Peterson of Amana Lutheran church joined Bethany Institute at Bethany College Lindsborg for pastor education. Ministers studied parables natural sciences theology and leadership under Dr. George F. Hall. Mrs Peterson attends six week summer school at Augustana College Island Illinois.
OES Scandia Chapter No. 481 held a Tuesday meeting at 8 p.m. with Worthy Matron Mrs. George Chase and Worthy Patron George Chase presiding. Guests included District Aide Sylvia Weaver and reception of Wyoming Grand Representative Mrs. Ross Swenson, plus gifts to several officers. The Obligation was recited, songs performed, district talks given, followed by a potluck lunch prepared by local families.

A Social Security Administration representative will visit Belleville Kansas on Wednesday July 5 1967. Call at the Courthouse Welfare Office from 10:00 to 2:00 for information. Farmers employing extra help this summer must deduct social security tax and report wages to the IRS if wages reach 150 or more cash in a year or if a worker is paid on 20 or more days for cash wages. Reports due at year end with tax due. Forms available through the District Director of Internal Revenue.
Rhonda Hall returned home from Republic County Hospital after surgery. Robert Scrivner was discharged and went back to Belleville Home. Mrs J E Freed came home June 21 after St Joseph Hospital care in Concordia. Grace Kallman was dismissed from Republic County Hospital and is cared for at a private Belleville home.
A Kansas Veterans Commission representative will be at the Belleville Courthouse July 13 from 1 00 to 4 00 P M to assist veterans and dependents with service work. Those unable to attend may contact the office by phone or visit.
Miss Sherry Hines and Everett Fike were married Sunday evening June 25 in Galva Kansas. A reception followed at the bride’s parents home. Guests included Mrs. Nisse Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. George Fike. Fike will report July 19 for Air Force duty in the Philippine Islands.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Herr man Leroy and Marvin visited Wednesday evening with Mr and Mrs Kenneth Daniel son. Frank Tierney and family from Dennison Texas were guests Sunday evening with Mr and Mrs J E Freed and others. John EF Hanson and John of Yankton Dakota spend ten day vacation with Arnold Perry and Everett Hanson at Court.
Phyllis Pyle notes no private lessons or band practice on July 3 and July 4 due to the July 4 holiday and absence of summer classes.
Scandia Zoo reports two buffa sheep and one wild sheep born recently. The animals joined the zoo’s exhibits, drawing interest from visitors and staff.
Scandia Reds defeated Republic 43 on their home field Monday evening. Scandia Blues lost a Friday practice game at Cuba. Both teams are entered in the league tournament to be held July 10 11 and 16 in Cuba.
Sherdahl Boosters 4 H Sewing Girls attended a Tri- County Judging School at Concordia on Tuesday. Participants included Ann Johnson, Sharon Runft, Linda Lindecrantz, Cathy Farrell, Jane Hobson, Judy Hobson, Cynthia Thompson, Sheila Thompson, Mary Ann Waite. Linda Lindecrantz placed 2nd in Junior Division, Sharon Runft 3rd, Sheila Thompson 5th. Donna Runft 4th and Cynthia Thompson 9th in Senior Division of Republic County.
Jamestown couple Mr and Mrs Glenn Larson and Fred visit Clarence Gile family. Charles Mack family hosts Terri and Lori Mach. Norman Currie hosts multiple guests including Dennis Goodley and Bob Currie. Fairbury’s Harry Cline visits Elsie Berggren. Rex Sandell group dine with Fred Cline in Republic. Oklahoma City’s E W Kitchen and son Bill arrive for relatives visit. Fred Jackson hosts supper at Bel Villa.
