Rabies Outbreak Sparks Caution in Kansas Farmers

Kansas health officials report a severe rabies outbreak mainly in skunks across South Central Kansas. Since January 1 the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Kansas State University logged 81 cases, ten times normal, with dogs, cats, cattle, horse, cow, coyote, and a guinea pig also affected. Bible Study Group Meets at Methodist Hall

Mrs Eva Stolander hosted a Bible Study Group on Wednesday June 16 at the Methodist Fellowship Hall. The lesson covered Luke 20 to 23 with Rev and Mrs Lee Dickey and ten others attending. After lunch the group adjourned to meet Agnes Cardwell on July 7.

Story Hour at Library Draws Twentyone Young Readers

Twenty one youngsters attended a Wednesday story hour at the library from 10 to 11 for kindergarten through third grade. The program runs weekly through August 25 with attendance prizes and is sponsored by the Sorosis Study Club as a Community Achievement project.

Social Hour Club Meets for Flag History Quiz

The Social Hour Club gathered with Mrs Rex Sandell on Tuesday June 15 with ten members and two guests. Roll call featured Something About the History of Our Flag and a flag history quiz for recreation. Prizes were awarded including a napkin prize to Mrs Cecil Allen. Secretary was Mrs Homer Cardwell. The group plans to meet June 29 with Mrs Dale Stanford and a July 4th themed roll call.

Birthday and social visits mark Maple Grove gatherings

Mrs Agnes Cardwell joined Homer Cardwell for a Monday dinner honoring his birthday. Neighbors and friends hosted belated birthday celebrations for Mrs Elsie Johnson. A Saturday evening visit honored Michael Strautts 11th birthday with Mr and Mrs Gene Strait hosting. Several afternoons featured birthday honors for Mrs Moe and Mrs Moe's friends at her home. A long string of callers and attendees included numerous named individuals from nearby towns.

Miss Vernice Swanson took over Opal Rasmussen's place as Rasmussen needed care for husband. Mr and Mrs M and Larson were Saturday supper guests of Mr and Mrs Glenn Larson and family.

Scandia Chapter No 481 OKS meets in June session

Scandia Chapter No 481 OKS held a regular meeting June 15 at 8 p.m. with Mrs. Bill Brewer as Worthy Matron and Archie Isaacson as Worthy Patron. District Aide Mrs. Marcia Holloway of Narka attended and was welcomed. Guests included Mrs. Elsie Horak of Munden Chapter and several visitors from nearby towns. A star themed ceremony "Star Wishes" was presented, and a district talk outlined plans for the year. The group voted to recess July and August and planned to meet September 7 at 8 p.m. Hosts hosted a potluck and local residents shared a supper afterward.
