Hoover Curtis Lead Kansas City GOP To 1928 Campaign
At the Kansas City convention Herbert Hoover of California and Senator Charles Curtis of Kansas were chosen leaders of the Republican party for the 1928 campaign. Curtis won the vice presidency on the first ballot amid a strong Kansas delegation split. The convention opposed the McNary Haugen farm bill with La Follette Jr. proposing a minority report that was rejected. Poly Tincher’s nomination speech for Curtis sparked a long, rousing demonstration signaling momentum for the next day’s proceedings.
