City council approves an ordinance for metered water charges to take effect July 1. A $10 meter installation deposit is refundable when service ends. Minimum monthly charge is 3,000 gallons at 75 cents plus 20 cents per thousand gallons to 8,000 and 15 cents per thousand to 15,000. Water crews install meters this week.
Scandia merchants arrange with the Chick Boyes Players to offer free family entertainment this Saturday afternoon at the big tent on the fair grounds. Tickets are donated by subscribing business men and are free upon request. The company is a strong road troupe with skilled performers and above average music and specialty acts.
Mrs Alma Freeding and her daughter Ogda of Belleville were in town on Monday for business purposes.
Six entertaining acts have been secured for Scandia Open Air Entertainment Course sponsored by local churches. The six week series begins July 1 with a Nebraska Wesleyan University male quartet and reader. Acts include Miss Amelia Carstensen's Belleville Symphonic Orchestra, Shaw Orchestra of Belleville, a Baker reader trio, and two notable speakers Dr Pihlblad and Senator Oberlies. Tickets at 1.00 for adults and 0.50 for children.
The Odd Fellows plan a large Fourth of July program at Riverside Park with foot races baseball games and a wrestling match between Vernon Davis of Cawker City and Hallas of Kansas City John I Saunders former grand master will deliver the day’s address The park offers picnic facilities shade and river swimming with dancing at the pavilion a complete schedule to be announced next week
Union services at City Hall park start June 28 with a program for July. Lectures cover Cooperation Between church and community, Community Patriotism, Religious Life in a Rural Community, and contributions of the community and church to young people. Committee members include music leaders and ushers.
