Early Pleasant Valley district school history and building
The Pleasant Valley district formed in 1871 at Mr Garber's home. Directors were chosen, land bought for a school, and a log building with basic furnishings served as the first school. Overcrowding led to a larger east wing added in 1891, with a long list of teachers. The cyclone on June 5 1908 destroyed the school and most supplies.

Frank Sveigr, who murdered a farmer near Cuba months ago, was ruled insane in Probate Court last Monday. The District Court had considered his age and heard deportation papers from his homeland showing he was under 16 when the crime occurred. Judge Dillon transferred the case to Juvenile Court where insanity was affirmed. Sveigr will be sent to the asylum at Topeka and then deported to his country of origin. The attorneys hail this as the best outcome relieving the state of his care.
