Our estimable friend Mrs Florence Fike left Scandia Thursday a week ago for Waterloo Iowa to live with her son Roy Fike and wife. We will miss her pleasant calls at the office and her kindly manner as she inquired of friends. Her failing eyesight, once she braved the coldest winter days, forced her to relinquish household duties.

Merger Approved to Form Western Light and Telephone Company
The SEC approves the merger of The Kansas Power Company and Western Light and Telephone Company creating Western Light and Telephone Company Inc. to serve about 275 communities in Kansas Missouri Iowa Oklahoma with 80 000 customers and assets near 19 million dollars. The new firm will run 18 power plants 103 telephone exchanges five gas properties seven ice plants and will employ about 800 staff. Stockholders meetings set for August 7 and 8 1945 to approve the plan with bond refinancing of 6.2 million dollars planned and stock exchange terms outlined including cash and new preferred stock considerations.

Reorganization Plan for Kansas Schools Promoted
The Kansas Legislative Research Council presents a nonpartisan county by county plan to reorganize state schools. Each of 105 counties appoints a five member committee to study pupil numbers buildings roads and finances, then proposes district changes with hearings and published orders.
