Victor Emanuel Erickson born 1885 in Scandia Kansas died 1968 at Good Samaritan Home Nelson Nebraska aged 83 years 5 months and 3 days. He married Amelia Othberg in 1906 and they observed 62nd wedding anniversary in June 1968. Survived by widow Minnie son Vernon daughter Edna five grandchildren ten great grandchildren and multiple siblings. Services June 27 at Amana Lutheran Church. Burial in Lutheran cemetery. Funeral arranged by Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Home Scandia.
Gustav Adolph Hallgren born September 8 1886 near Courtland Kansas died June 24 1968 at Republic County Hospital aged 81 years 9 months 16 days. Survived by wife Louise children Lloyd Vergle six grandchildren seven great grandchildren sister Lillie Hoyt of Wisconsin and many nieces and nephews. Funeral June 7 at Scandia United Methodist Church with burial Riverview cemetery.
Unit I and II of the LOW met at Amana Lutheran Church for an all day session with a noon pot luck. Quilting and Christmas ham ornaments were made. A bridal shower for Vickie Herrman, bride-elect of Ron Waits, was held Saturday night June 22 in the church basement with pink and white decor and hostesses listed. Vickie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Herrman of Scandia.
Wichita Eagle and Beacon reporter Forrest Hintz visited Scandia on Monday to discuss Scandia Centennial events at the Journal office, dine, and meet John Nystrom. Walter Berger recalled Hintz as a former essays judge, and Hintz spoke of a Viet Nam assignment with a Swedish colleague.
Denise and Dennis Nickerson of Salina were Monday and Tuesday guests of their grandparents. The visit highlighted family ties in a close community setting.
Mrs Grace Robison arrived home on June 17 from Germany where she had been teaching the past term. She will return in August for another term. She is visiting her daughter Mrs Gary Clark Rev Clark and Scott this week.
Kansas Power and Light announces a two story downtown office tower to replace four razed structures. Located at 188 North Santa Fe the building will feature frontage on two streets a 125 seat community room a display kitchen and electric heated sidewalks. construction to start immediately with completion in about a year.
Cheryl Currie, daughter of Mr and Mrs Glenn Currie Scandia, wed Arnold Dale Loring son of Mr and Mrs Lee Loring Scandia on Saturday June 15 at United Methodist Church Scandia. Rev Lee Dickey officiated with musicians Lee Dickey and Phyllis Aspegren. The gown featured white satin with chantilly lace, a flowing train and a silk illusion veil. Bridesmaids and ushers included Vicki Florell and Jack Graham with brothers Robert Currie and Jimi Currie. The couple plans a Colorado honeymoon and home in Scandia after a wedding trip.
Mr and Mrs Jack Thursand with children from Cawker City visited Mr and Mrs J D Greenslade alongside Mr and Mrs Delbert Aspgren and family during a Sunday gathering hosted in Greenslade home.
