Ed Waters, a 34 year old single man, killed himself at his brother J. W. Waters residence in Bassett Nebraska by cutting his throat with a razor then shooting himself in the forehead with a 38 revolver. He left no motive evident and was unconscious after the act.
The House Elections Committee favors a bill for the direct popular election of United States senators and presidents. A senate committee discussed the same idea, with petitions from six states urging a national constitutional convention to amend the United States Constitution. Debate centered on whether thirty petitions must be sent to one Congress or may remain active indefinitely. no decision was reached.
A Denver police telegram ordered Columbus Nebraska officers to arrest and search Florence Hake who arrived to visit relatives. She was detained at a relative’s home under guard by an officer. She denies knowledge of the charge and friends express shock. She is daughter of William Foutsom and wife of Hake, linked to former hotel operations in Omaha and Grand Island.

Advices report all escapees from the United States penitentiary at McNeill's Island have been captured. The last four men James Morarity Mike Williams Bruce Kenwright and J P Stewart were taken near where the others were captured. The capture occurred without a shot being fired and the men had a sackful of chickens.
A Kentucky bank in Hartford was robbed by five men using dynamite to blast the vault. About $6,000 was taken with some money recovered later. The explosion alarmed the town, and the robbers were pursued.
A man identified as William Wittmacher fatally shot his sweetheart May Conaty after she refused to marry him. He then returned home, shot himself through the head, and died when authorities forced entry to his residence.
A mob of about fifteen to twenty men visited the residence of Mr. White in Calvert Kemper County Mississippi and fired through the door wounding White his wife and a lady visitor. The house was later burned and four children perished White and his wife are missing.
Ex state treasurer Graham Paper Co. official Dean Cooper died after skull fracture in the cooling room. Attendant William Strother, on duty, is jailed. a sledge hammer with bloodstains and valuable jewelry were found in the bath house basement. Strother said a carriage party and a boy had lunched with Cooper before midnight.
A Douglas county grand jury indicted former State Treasurer J B Meserve for embezzling interest from state funds deposited in a state depository. Reported amount concerns 150 dollars monthly for ten months. Meserve claimed political persecution and questioned who pursued charges.

The incident occurred as the vehicle failed to clear the tracks after the wagon became unmanageable.
Laura Corneili son three years old died from throat wounds inflicted by her eleven year old sister Nellie in Wichita Kansas. Nellie denies the crime and accuses brother Harvey aged five while the father questions the sister’s guilt. The attack happened in a barn near the mother in the kitchen. The child lived several hours after the injury.
In Ottawa Kansas Mary McCoy and her two daughters Mary Stanley and Bessie Browning faced first degree murder charges for the death of James Booth. They were arraigned in police court before Judge Robbins with Sheriff Costigan in attendance. The coroner’s complaint, signed by Coroner Haggart and read by County Attorney Branson, alleges premeditated killing by blunt instrument or head trauma and details body disposal. Only Justice Robbins, Sheriff Costigan, the defendants, and their attorneys were present.
Mrs. F Maude Smith of Parsons Kansas sues James J Canavan in district court seeking 20000 in damages alleging a ten year betrothal with repeatedly delayed wedding dates and an intended marriage never realized. The plaintiff is a widow with two grown children living in Parsons for fifteen years. the defendant is a single man described as well mannered.
Frank Ratcliff jailer Garnett East surprised as Jesse Spring a gambler surrendered himself a prisoner. He had evaded officers with a state warrant charging gambling while hiding from the sheriff. Springs attended a country revival then traveled ten miles to surrender, hoping to serve his sentence.
A fatal shooting occurred at a Sioux City Armour Company saloon on payday. Bartender Jor Russell, identified as a wartender, shot Bang Starks, an Armour employee, during a dice game melee after a quarrel.
