Western Power approval for a 122 million dollar 1973 construction program spans 12 states with Crewe Electric a joint utility serving 1,240,000 customers including 62,000 in Kansas. A 78,000 kilowatt gas turbine station to be built and in service in spring 1974 will be fully automatic and controlled from Concordia. North edge of Concordia will host a 34.5 kV transmission line stretch four miles long. Other area projects include rebuilding miles of 34.5 kV line between Haddam and Cuba with a 74,000 dollar budget.

Southwestern Bell Telephone Company projects $67 million in 1973 for improvement and expansion in Kansas, about $10 million more than 1972. Vice President Haake says completion depends on balancing revenues and expenses. The firm seeks rate increases of $14.6 million annually, was granted $5.07 million, and plans $3.5 million for rural construction with high property taxes.
