Scandia tops Courtland 80 49 as Jim Nylund scores season high 28 points and Rich ard Raney adds 20 with 11 rebounds. Courtland B team defeats Scandia 58 49 while Scandia freshmen beat Courtland 47 28 led by John Izaacson with 16. Scandia wraps league with 4 3 and 17 7 overall tying Notre Dame and Jamestown for third.

Hospital notes and chapter meeting in Scandia

Ronnie Aspegren was treated at Republic County Hospital for a wrist fracture sustained at school. Harold Swanson was discharged after a brief stay. Mrs. Rod Deal underwent surgery at Wesley Hospital in Wichita. OES Chapter 481 met Feb 7 at 7:30 pm with officers presiding and honored charter members. Chapter plans next meeting for Feb 21. Refreshments served. Nearby, Mr. and Mrs. Hobson hosted guests for Sunday dinner at Royal Cafe.

Valentine The Social Hour Club Meeting Recalls Old Valentines

The Social Hour Club met at Bretta Evans home on February 7 with nine members and one guest. Members read Valentine related pieces and displayed valentines dating back to 1872. Myrtle Cardwell won the word contest and Emma Klaumann joined the club.

Twin Denoyer died Sunday February 12 at the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln Nebraska aged 70. Mrs Darrell Garst hosted Scandia KEHU as eleven members gathered Thursday evening for Ideas of Community Improvement. Vice president Mrs Gene Isaacson led the business meeting. Mrs James Garst presented Financing Your Furniture Needs urging careful credit use and family budgeting. Hostess gift won by Mrs Andy Thompson. March 9 lesson by Mrs Klima with Mrs Garst. Bostwick District Meeting Highlights Rural Test Plots

About 100 attendees attended the Bostwick District afternoon session with numbers swelling to 125 later. Robert Raney presented test-plot slides from the Experiment Farm and results from last year’s tests. A taped report from Congressman Robert Dole on his India recert trip was read, and Dr. Robert Bohannon’s substitute spoke on Kansas State University’s India program.

Blue and Gold Banquet Honors Cub Scouts at Legion Hall

The 10th annual Blue and Gold Banquet for Pack 282 was held at the Legion Hall with a pot luck supper for over 80 cubs and families. Cubmaster James Garst awarded Wolf Bear and Lion badges with gold and silver arrows, plus two year or one year pins. new members also received Bobcat pins.

Revellaion Party Held Monday Evening At Scandia High School

Scandia YWCA and Y-Teers held their annual revelation party at the high school Monday evening. Mrs. Arnold Perry led the business meeting and officers training is planned for Courtland in April with Scandia ladies asked to give devotions. Mrs. Louis Stofer will review a book March 18. Y-Teens led devotions with Scripture and prayer. Cindy Erickson performed a trumpet solo and Beth Lervold played piano. Mrs. Joseph McDonald spoke on homemaking and a gift exchange plus lunch followed at a Valentine Tea Table hosted by Mrs. Del bert Aspegren and Phyllis.

Death of Christian Olausson 80 in Belleville hospital

Christian Olausson aged 80 died at Republic County Hospital in Belleville on Saturday. He lived in the Scandia community from the early 1900s until recently becoming a hospital patient and later a resident at Concordia Home. Bachelor Faulkner Dart Funeral Home in Scandia will conduct services on Tuesday February 14 at 2 p.m.

Sorosis Study Club Sees Peace Corp Topics at February Meeting
