June Haver and Mark Stevens headline the Technicolor musical Oh You Beautiful Doll about Fred Fisher and his early 1900s songs. The film features breezy dance numbers, includes Fisher tunes like Peg O My Heart and Ireland Must Be Heaven, and showcases vibrant New York scenes with June and Mark delivering spirited performances.
The Monogram comedy Leave It To Henry comes to the Princess Theatre on Thursday February 23. Raymond Walburn and Walter Catlett star as a small town attorney and a meddling mayor in a riotous plot involving a burned toll bridge a centennial celebration and a re enacted steamboat fire with a happy ending. Gary Gray Mary Stulart Pat Phelan Barbara Brown and others provide humor and romance as the town comedy unfolds.
Belleville attorney Ed Chapman announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for County Attorney of Republic County in this year’s primary. A long time Republican activist, he has held posts in the Sixth District Young Republican Club and worked in journalism and public relations before serving in the Marine Corps. He is 33, married, and resides at 2015 L Street, Belleville.
Mrs Emma Welsh of Seattle Washington died at home on Tuesday February 7 at age 66. She had been in ill health and her death was unexpected. She was sister to Mrs Edith Fors perg and Harvey Sandell of Scandia.
The Vanskop Troopee met February 18 with nine members in attendance. Refreshments were served by Margie Lervold and Anita Anderson.
Masons of Scandia Chapter 481 were guests at a Feb 7 meeting led by Mrs. Sherman Robison W M and W P J Matthias. A reading by Mrs E H Lewis a piano duet by Mrs C E B Nelson and Miss Mary West and a humorous reading followed. The skit The Masons Meet closed the event with refreshments. The next meeting Feb 21 marks the chapter birthday anniversary.

Charles A. Rincker of the Bureau of Reclamation Scandia office died after a Sunday morning crash at 7:00. His sister and brother-in-law Jesse Johnson of Hastings Nebr were killed and his wife is hospitalized. Rincker is survived by his widow and two daughters. body to North Platte Nebr for burial.
A pot luck supper at Mrs. Lena Lloyd's home celebrated Miss Blanche Hageman's birthday anniversary. Guests included Miss Hageman along with Misses Josie Edna Adah Robison Mary West Louise Zakostelsky and others.
The letter list traces editors from A. B. Wilder in 1871 through Ralp and Roy McTaggart and Wm. Hill in 1912, then J. W. Plotner and Parise Plotner, H. Kannier, Jake and Louis Stofer, Mac and Cap, Adolph Nelson, and Rev. B. W. Selin. Anton Nelson and Earle Hawkins add notes.
A colorful Valentine party was hosted by the Sorosis Study Club on February 7 in the club rooms. Hostess was Mrs. Algor Anderson with decorations by Mrs. John Nylund and Mrs. Ralph Larson. Entertainment was led by Mrs. Maurice Medlin and Mrs. Sherman Robison who awarded prizes and Mrs. Robison read Cupid and Psyche. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Walter Boytes, Mrs. Wallace Aspegren and Mrs. N. H. Pearson, with nosages by Mrs. John Sankey of Republic for each guest.

The Social Hour Club met Sunday February 12 for a basket dinner at the Ambrose schoolhouse. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Joe Cline Jolene and Charles Mr and Mrs Homer Cardwell and Paul ine Mr and Mrs Jim Briscoe and family Mr and Mrs Morten Jensen and Charles Mr and Mrs Clarence Strom Mr and Mrs Leslie Rasmussen Joyce and Carol Mr and Mrs Rex Sandell and Mrs Oscar Berggren.
The White Rock Women s Club met with Mrs Walter Saunders in Scandia on Tuesday afternoon February 7 for a pot luck dinner. Members listed include Mrs Daisy Mahaffey Mrs Will Imler Mrs Twila Roth Montrose Mrs Anna Lauritzen and Mr and Mrs Raymond Johnson Belleville and others from Hardy Nebr Scandia and Elgin The group voted to donate $10 to the March of Dimes and the hostess received several gifts.
Mrs. Clara Price and Mrs. Dale Price attend a gathering with Pathe and Penney along with Mrs. Harry Hoh man and Mrs. Margaret Brown and Vic Brown at Republic on Saturday afternoon.
