A public sale will be held Wednesday February 22 starting at 1:00 p m at the farm located 3 miles north and 2 west of Scandia. H S Robison and others are names on the listing printed on page 3. Review the list and plan to attend.
On Tuesday February 21 a special Founders Day program will be held at 7 30 p m in the high school auditorium.
Opening night in Scandia saw Republic versus Norway, Munden versus Scandia, and Narka versus Courtland. Kackley Agenda and Cuba to play tonight with semifinals, finals and consolation slated for Friday and Saturday. Officials include Paul Burke, Bruce Scovelle, O M Hardtarfer and Sherbert Shde. Community support drives turnout.
The writer and Alford Johnson from the Coffee Shop rode in Johnsons car to Belleville to see the Jesse James film at the County Capital. They enjoyed comfortable seats and the show though a scene with Jesse and Pinky on Stinky the mule caused a near escape. Mrs J J Malachek went with Cy Turner to Salina Tuesday.
A Boston maiden aboard a large ocean liner resolves to interview the captain to get her money’s worth. A steward directs her forward where the captain is, she vows to confront him about rumors she’s heard and to tell him what’s been said.
Church notes indicate Sunday School at 10 a m and an afternoon service after, with February 19 program at 2:00 pm and a note to attend the earlier hour.
The Little Friendly Church led by Pastor M. C. Linnerson conducts morning worship at 11 00 and evening worship at 7 30 p m Sunday School meets at 10 00. The Little Friendly Circle gathers Friday afternoon at J H Swenson’s home. Confirmation class is held at the church Saturday morning at 9 30.
The church hosts Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. with graded classes for all ages and morning worship at 11:00 a.m. Music by the church choir. The sermon is on The Blessed Man. At 7:30 p.m. the Fireside Fellowship Hour led by the young people includes a brief devotional by the pastor. A Christian welcome is extended to all.
Scandia and Norway Sunday Schools meet at 10 a.m. Education day at 11 a.m. Preaching at 7 30 p.m. by Miss Fogelberg. Study class on Gods Will Be Done in the Home led by Prof. C L Dutt at 11 a.m. Next Tuesday February 21 the W M A annual Thank offering meeting at 2 30 p.m. at the U B parsonage Miss Keys returns to lead refreshments served All are welcome.
The notice lists Sabbath School at 10 a m and worship with minister Jay C Everett at 11 a m at the Presbyterian Church. Dr Everett also preaches at Rydal at 9 45 a m with Bible study to follow. Youth Endeavor meets at 7 p m in the church parlor and the Welcome-In Circle gathers February 22 hosted by Mrs Nelson Mrs Summer and Miss Swanson.
Ronald John Isaacson born September 7 1988 in Scandia died February 9 1939 at St Joseph hospital in Concordia at five months two days. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs Archie Isaacson. Our sincere sympathy is extended to those who mourn his death.
Mr and Mrs Dudley Doctor and Mr and Mrs Thornton Doctor and daughters joined Mr and Mrs R A Doctor for a Sunday dinner in Concordia to honor the couple's 85th wedding anniversary.

The all day County Grade School Tournament is planned at Scandia High Gym next Saturday February 25. First games begin at 9 00 a m Norway vs Courtland and Scandia vs Narke at 9 45 with Republic vs Agenda 10 30 and Munden vs Wayne at 11 15. Semifinals and consolation games run 1 00 pm with three finals at 6 45 pm and 8 30 pm. Trophies awarded to first second and third places plus consolation winner. Officials O M Hardtaker and Harvey Bernhardt. Admission 10c morning 16c afternoon and 10c evening for children.
Ronald Colman stars as Francois Villon in If I Were King at the Princess Theatre Saturday and Sunday February 18 and 19. The cast includes Frances Dee Basil Rathbone Ellen Drew and more as Paris comes alive in this classic tale of romance and daring.
Rural Electrification applicants must file by Saturday February 18 in Republic County. County agent H. J. Adams says all filings go to Washington for approval. Those unable to meet the deadline will wait for a future setup.
The Agricultural Picture show Tuesday night drew a good crowd. Three 10 minute reels on soil conservation, Rain on the Plains, Grass Lands, and Muddy Waters, plus assorted slides, entertainment by Scardia high school band under Fred Reasoner, and remarks by Supt. Miller.
A family note describes a Valentine gesture received after sunset on Valentine Day. Sissy Barbara and Alyce sent a box of Jelly Beans Lolly pops Tangerines and Peppermint candy with the line I am in DUTCH because you're the APPLE of my eye. The sender explains the names refer to our two daughters and granddaughter to protect reputation with the Fair Sex.
Season tickets priced at 25 cents for children and 80 cents for adults. The grade school will sell refreshments and candy.
Scandia Swedes defeated Republic Wildcats 32 to 26 in the season’s fastest game. White led with 18 points as Lindecrantz added late free throws, turning a 25 all tie with two minutes left. Flickers fell 13 to 15 after leading 9 5 at halftime.
Willard Nelson of Scandia was chosen to join the Kansas Wesleyan Philharmonic choir for its February 12 performance at Ellsworth First Methodist church. The trip served as a warm up for the spring tour from April 10 to 28 with concerts in Oklahoma City Dallas Galveston and New Orleans.
