Exotic red double hibiscus blooms in Dr. Bennett office

A large Chinese hibiscus tree with red double blossoms sits in Dr. J. L. Bennett’s office. The plant, planted by Mrs. Mary Bennett decades ago, has buds on every twig and flowers that last about a day, recently moved from a bank in Asherville to a basement before being rescued to Scandia.

Ole Frazier Returns From California Vacation

Guy Ole Frazier arrives back in Wichita after a two week trip to Southern California and Old Mexico. He says he hunted fished and enjoyed the vacation and that he also visited his brother.

Open House At Scandian Farm Supply Draws Prizes

At Scandia Farm Supply the Open House drew 391 registrations for prizes. Coffee and lunch were served as Mrs Irvin Nondorf won a fire extinguisher by guessing 831 bolts in a jar. others won tools, a toaster, a badminton set, swim fins, and a storm door. Boy Scout Week Observances Highlight Uniformed Displays

Scout events mark Boy Scout Week with uniforms worn to church next Sunday. Cub Scouts led by Dr Bill Moe decorate a window near Cardwell IGA while Boy Scouts present a life size figure in the Journal office window. A Blue and Gold Dinner for eight Webelos and others will honor awards. The movement began in England in 1907 and Cub Scouts started in 1930. programs stress mental moral and physical development and civic service.

Swedes Top Jamestown 91 to 67 on Jayhawk Court

The Flying Swedes defeated Jamestown 91 67 Tuesday night on the Jayhawk court. Gordon Berry scored 40 points tying his season high while Ed Carlgren and Gary Johnson excelled in rebounding and defense. Twelve Swedes played as the team delivered one of its best performances of the year.

Social Visit Roundup From Manitthan and Nearby

Saturday overnight and Sunday guests visited in Manhattan and at the Larson home. Marilyn Larson, a Bethany College sophomore, will begin her second semester there. Colder air to end mild spell with light Saturday snow
