Missouri Pacific approves tri weekly mixed train

The Missouri Pacific Railroad wins state approval to replace daily service on the Concordia to Scandia to Prosser branch with a tri weekly mixed train. Effective February 1, northbound trains run Monday Wednesday Friday from Concordia to Scandia 9:00 a.m. and southbound 3:45 p.m. Returns from Scandia to Concordia at 5:10 p.m. The change aims to cut operating costs and reduce the branch deficit, with hearings in Hastings and Concordia outlining earnings and impact on regional traffic.

Scandia High School Purchases Thirteen Underwood Typewriters

Scandia high school buys thirteen Underwood typewriters from the Underwood Typewriter Company of Salina for the typing department. Two machines feature elite type and one includes a special twelve inch carriage.

Hi Y Council Hosts Oyster Supper at Schoolhouse

Members of the Scandia Hi Y Club attended an oyster supper hosted by the Hi Y Council at the schoolhouse on Monday night. Ed Wires Carl Hammer and Rev M C Linerson assisted by Miss Trella Reiber served oyster soup roast beef sandwiches pickles and celery. Several reels on scenes in foreign countries were shown after the meal.

Thirteen students earned the honor roll for the third six weeks and twelve for the semester. Freshmen Irene Gritten and Bill Pearson lead the six weeks list with AAAB and AABB respectively. Rock Island to Change Time Schedule February 13

Rock Island plans a new timetable effective February 18 after removing the Rock Island Rocket between Kansas City and Denver. Scandia agent C. E. Beach notes changes: No. 5 westbound arrives RidBop later. No. 6 eastbound arrives at 8 20 a m. No. 7 westbound at 2 40 a m. No. 8 eastbound at 2 00 a m.

Scandia to Play Norway Friday and Munden Tuesday

The orange and black teams from Norway clash with the Scandia Swedes here Friday February 4 in three games. At seven o clock the second team boys play followed by the Flickers comeback bid and the first team seeks a repeat win. The first and second team boys meet Munden on their home court Tuesday February 8 in their first meeting this year.

A Scandia Lutheran church committee canvasses the community for lodging for visiting pastors during the Kansas Lutheran Conference the week of May 4. Rooms for one hundred guests have been solicited so far.

Kackley Bearcats Extend Winning Streak in Trio Wins

The Kackley Bearcats crushed Scan dia Swede squads in three contests on Tuesday night. First team overwhelmed 70-14 earlier, then 68-26. second team fell 53-20 after a 64-19 defeat. Close halves. grade school also played hard but lost 12-8.

Coyotes Count Rises After Two Jewell County Hunts

Ten coyotes were killed south of Mankato last Thursday bringing two week total to 23 in Jewell county. Seven were killed in the roundup and three back of the lines in the two hunts conducted in the area.
