Swedes Split With Norway In H S Basketball Mix

Scandia boys first team beat Norway 14 to 11 while the second team lost 19 to 12. Girls tied Norway 27 to 27 in a fast contest noted for defense and close scoring throughout. Doc Watson starred for Scandia with strong floor work and scoring.

Al Moss Dies in Belleville at 57

Beloved Belleville business man Al Moss died at his home last week due to heart trouble. A longtime Lions Club member, he worked for Peoples State Bank in Belleville and lived in the town for many years. He leaves two daughters, one in Lincoln Nebraska and another teaching in the southeast state. Funeral services were held Sunday in Belleville with interment in the Belleville cemetery.

Bridge Party At Miss Aspegren Home

On February 1 E M Ivey reopened his cleaning and pressing business after a month’s vacation. A February special offers 25 percent off cleaning and pressing for Scandia residents. Swedish Supper Draws Large Crowd at Methodist Church

The Swedish supper at the Methodist church last Thursday drew several hundred guests who sampled pickled herring cheese salads fish puddings meats and baked goods donated by church members and friends. Attendees called for another similar event soon.

Alfred Swanson Sale Attracts Farmers Near Scandia

The Alfred Swanson sale held last Monday afternoon on a farm six miles south of Scandia drew a well attended crowd. Buying was brisk and some items brought good prices as bidding stayed rapid until it stopped at a top. All sales were cash and farmers sought value relative to income. Swanson did not reveal future plans.

Granstedt Mahan Wedding Announced for Scandia Couple

Miss Bernice Granstedt of Scandia wed Mr. Harrison Mahan of Scandia on July 25, 1981 at North Branch Minnesota with Rev Evans of the Congregational church officiating. Mrs. Mahan is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Fran Granstedt, a Scandia graduate of 1932. Mr. Mahan is the son of Mr and Mrs H H Mahan, a local graduate of 1931. They will reside at the Mahan home on South Grynt Street.

A county wide Christian Endeavor rally at the Presbyterian church drew a large crowd. Vigilantes appoint four for Scandia aid to sheriff

A committee of four vigilantes—W. B. Shivvers, George Jeandebeur, Raymond Cooper and Gust Bentsen—was appointed for Scandia to aid the sheriff in case of trouble in other towns, despite Scandia having no banks.

Colorado's New Governor Inaugurated In Denver

Edwin Carl Johnson 49, inaugurated governor of Colorado after a life of self made work from a tent home near Colorado Springs to leadership in the state house. He rose from telegrapher and farmer to democratic speaker, succeeding Gov. William H. Adams. He and his wife Fern Armitage have two daughters, Gladys and Jeanette Grace.
