Fire destroys Webber lumber yard and elevator
A Christmas morning blaze levelled the Webber lumber yard and elevator, destroying 2 500 bushels of corn and about 1 000 bushels of wheat. Oscar Ralston, longtime elevator worker, is held in Mankato jail after a partial confession and blame shifting. The Scholar Bishop Co of Superior owns the property and may rebuild plans remain undecided.

War veteran Ezra Williams dies in Belleville at 82
Ezra Williams a Belleville resident and Civil War veteran died at his home after a long illness. He formerly worked with T. C. Preble & Co. in Scandia and served in the Nebraska volunteer cavalry. Mrs John Sjoholm Pioneer Of Scandia Passes At 82
Mrs. John Sjoholm born October 14 1846 in Skane Sweden came to the United States in 1869. She moved with husband John Sjoholm to Republic County Kansas in 1871 and later settled in Scandia. She joined the Methodist Church in 1880 and worked with the Ladies Society and Woman’s Missionary Society. She died Christmas 1928 at age 82 after a long illness. Funeral was held December 27 from home and Methodist church with Rev J Lundberg officiating. Burial at Riverview cemetery.

Caroline Jane Gile nee Webber died December 23 1928 at the home of her son John S Gile near Norway Kansas aged 85 years four days She was born December 19 1843 in Hinckley Ohio daughter of Rev Richard and Lovina Webber She married Newell E Gile November 19 1864 at Medina Ohio and had nine children two sons and one daughter survive with fourteen grandchildren The family moved to Kansas to a homestead near Norway in 1874 She joined various churches over her life becoming an Episcopalian then Highland Baptist She suffered a cerebral hemorrhage November 19 1928 and died shortly after Funeral services were held December 24 at Highland church with Rev D V Herrick and Rev T Orlin Torjeson Norway in charge Burial at Highland Cemetery
