Chamois Skin of Commerce Observed by Druedling
Philadelphia author Charles C. Druedling reports in the American Journal of Pharmacy that true chamois skins are rare oil- tanned sheep or lamb skins lining. He found the chamois supply is very limited with only 5,000 to 6,000 skins a year across an entire crop. He notes chamois skin is heavier and coarser than sheep skin but stronger, while for ordinary use the oil-tanned sheep skin lining is often preferred.
