Wheat Meeting Outlines Relief Plan for Wheat Growers

A large group of local wheat farmers heard Dr. E. P. Ahrens explain the plan for farm relief and the proposed Wheat Allotment. The discussion covered U S wheat surpluses, exports, carryover stocks, and the goal to restore buying power to the farmer's dollar while reducing persistent surpluses.

Scandia Boys In Auto Wreck Near Belleville

Haywood Ostberg and John Nystrom, with Wilma and Georgi McCullough of Belleville, were seriously injured when their car struck a culvert near Settle Hill south of Belleville on Monday morning. The Gust Nystrom Chrysler sustained heavy damage, possibly beyond repair.

Scandia Juniors Defeat Byron in Home Game

The Scandia junior baseball team defeated Byron Sunday with a long home run by Wyatt Corbin as the feature. The team wore new uniforms. The ball club has been sponsoring boxing matches at Miller's Rink each Saturday evening with large crowds. another match is planned for next Saturday.

Bond Scandal Rocks State Under Governor Landon

Governor Landon directs a probe into a major state bond scandal with Fred M Harris named special prosecutor. The state treasurer’s office is guarded by the National Guard as authorities seize records from the attorney general state auditor and state superintendent of public instruction. About three quarters of a million forged hands found in the treasurer’s office and elsewhere. Ronald Finney a bond broker and Leland Caldwell his aide are jailed. U S district attorney S M Brewster aids the investigation as more officials may be pulled into the case.

Methodist Youth Attend Camp at Pawnee

A group of Methodist Church youths attended a Pawnee camp during the first three days of the week. The camp was directed by Mrs. Martin Johnson, Mrs. Lindecrantz, Mrs. Woelin, Mr. Emil Isaacson, Joyce Johnson and Rev. B. W. The long awaited gold mining machine reaches Republic by truck from Kansas City. First trial run expected late this week or early next. Focused on concentrates from sand with gold as the main hoped recovery. Initial test at Aaron Price farm northeast of Republic overseen by J J Malk Jr. with engineering testing to decide recovery method in Kansas City. Refinery planned in Republic after method chosen. Hardy refinery rumors denied. Promoters say no new land leases now, but 6,800 acres leased near Republic with 3,200 more to come if results prove satisfactory.

County Wheat Plan Gets New Administrator

W. H. VonTreka named administrator of the government domestic allotment wheat plan in the county. He will lead the county wheat plan committee and help organize a permanent county wheat production control association. Community meetings to elect township representatives and explain allotment contracts will be announced soon.

Clarence Stensang bought 153 acres of the Krogstad estate in Cloud and Republic counties for 10600 dollars. Lars Tiller of the Norway city reportedly purchased 200 acres of the same estate in Cloud County for 10600 dollars.

Taxpayers Meet at County Court House Defeated Injunction Plan

Scandia High School plans a new four year Normal Training program in the senior year to qualify graduates for teaching. Readiness includes completing the first three years with courses in English, algebra, geometry, agriculture, physiology, psychology, methods, management and geography. County Teachers to Meet in Belleville

The Republic County Normal Institute will be held at the Belleville High School Auditorium from August 21 to 25. A strong faculty includes Professor F. L. Miller, superintendent of Scandinavian Schools, with leading educators from Pittsburg and Manhattan on the program. County Superintendent Larson has sent programs to all county teachers urging attendance.

Scandia Boy Hurt Seriously by Flying Knife

Vernon Nelson son of Ernest Nelson was seriously injured last Friday morning when he walked into a knife wielded by his brother Glenn while cutting weeds. He was taken to Dr Haggman and later rushed to Concordia for surgery on the mangled left wrist where muscles and an artery were cut to the bone. He is improving at the hospital.

County Considers Appointing Lady Case Supervisor

County officers consider selecting a woman to investigate all relief cases. Law requires a qualified case supervisor to be appointed, with commissioners now accepting applications. An accident occurred last Friday evening on East Highway injuring driver Me Jsee. A Dodge four‑door car collided with another vehicle, leaving unclear damage and details as reports remain fragmentary. Authorities are investigating to determine cause and liability.
