Scandia Kansas Post Office Record and Quirky Notes
A 19th century item notes establishment in 1871 and a second class mail matter designation at Scandia Kansas under the 1879 act. It includes a digression about farm books and land purchases. A playful exchange asks what a rod of affliction is and a child answers goldenrod amid hay fever jokes. Horoscope-tinged quips follow about spinach and grit.

From the Observation Tower and Town Talk Notes
A fragmented column discusses social fashions, local economy, and political topics. It mentions kittenball craze, noon meals, and women on the diamond. It critiques the McElroy kidnapping death sentence and debates liquor legality and highway plans, touching Kansas law and national recovery issues.
Editorial argues safety on highways is an attitude
The piece asserts that better cars and roads do not guarantee safety and may raise accidents as drivers overestimate protection. It stresses a simple courteous driving rule set: avoid corners and passes on curves, stay in your lane, respect right of way, and maintain safe stopping distance. Discourtesy on the road is linked to higher crash rates.
Finis The aviation instructor vacation home work
An aviation instructor tied up in a partial sentence appears to reference work for a son at home during a vacation period. The readable fragment suggests routine duties or tutoring linked to travel or flight lessons but provides no clear event, date, or location.
First Gas Street Lights in London Sparked Outcry
About 125 years ago London became the first city to use gas street lighting along Pall Mall. The shift faced universal opposition with cartoons showing innocents choking on gas and critics comparing it to lighting the city with smoke.
