First Legislator Samuel A Kemp Dies at 73 in Fremont Neb
Samuel A Kemp died Tuesday evening at his son Harry Kemp's home in Fremont Nebraska after a long illness linked to heart weakness. He was 73. Born near Manchester England, he emigrated to America, lived along the Mississippi, and helped settle Minnesota. A pioneer, he served in the first constitutional convention and multiple terms in territorial and state legislatures. He was a leading attorney and helped secure railroad right of way for Milwaukee and St Paul from LaCrosse to St Paul. He had resided with relatives in Fremont since his health declined.
