Class 39 Holds Commencement Exercises May 18
The high school commencement will be held in the auditorium Thursday evening May 18 at 8:00. Rev. Thomas O Parish of West Side Christian church Topeka will deliver the address. The program features the school music department and band. Final Examinations Scheduled for May 16 17 18
Examinations will be held Tuesday through Thursday May 16 17 and 18. Regular classes occur Tuesday morning with the second and seventh hour tests that afternoon. Some students may be exempt from finals if they meet grade and conduct requirements and absences tardies policies apply.

Hodges New Scandia Superintendent Succeeds Miller
William E Hodges of Miller Kansas has been chosen as the new Scandia superintendent succeeding F L Miller who will leave after six years. Hodges brings experience as high school principal and coach at Miller and has taught at De Graff and Gypsum. He earned a BS and MA from the University of Kansas and plans to move to Scandia with his wife and daughter Barbera Kay.

Memorial Class of 1989 Presents Gilt Flag Donation
The Class of 1989 donated a 4 by 6 foot gilt flag bound with a 2 inch gold braid around the edges. It is mounted on an eight foot stand with a gilt base and eagle top, engraved with the class name and autographs. The flag and certificate will be formally presented May 46 during the school program. The annual last day dinner is planned for May 12 at the school building.

Mother Daughter Banquet Theme May Flowers Reflected in Decorations
A Mother-Daughter Banquet held April 25 featured a May Flowers theme. Tables were attractively decorated with May Flowers in brown baskets, tinted streamers and napkins adding galore. Special favors included a plane shaped item, and menu hook favors completed the table displays.
Grade Gradates Wednesday Evening Commencement
The 8th grade graduating class will gather Wednesday evening May 17 in the high school auditorium. Lawrence Nelson will deliver the valedictory, Norma Jean Richards the salutatory, with musical selections by grade groups and duets. Eva Jean Lewellyn will read the class, Betty Johnson the history, and Arlie Brown the prophesy. Supt Fe Li Miller and Alfred Hallowell will present diplomas and acceptance speeches.

Baccalaureate Service Set at Scandia High May 14
Dr J C Everett will speak on Business Is Good at the Baccalaureate in Scandia High School auditorium Sunday May 14 at 8 00 p m The senior class will march to the pro cessional with the junior class escort and worshipers will sing Faith of Our Fathers The service includes an invocation scripture reading and benediction by local clergy The sophomore class decorates and officers and ushers are listed Then juniors and seniors prepare for the annual Junior Senior Banquet tonight with faculty and school board spouses expected to attend.

Miss Jean Hartman Leaves for St Louis Opera
Miss Jean Hartman of Scandia will join the St. Louis Civic Opera Company in St. Louis Missouri as a contralto. She was one of three singers rejected in the contest for contralto positions but reports daily rehearsals eight hours long and strong love for the new role. Opera performances will be outdoors in Forest Park during summer. Prior to Scandia she was a noted soloist in Kansas City at the Conservatory of Music.
