On November twentieth, fishermen face a fierce storm at Filey Bay. George Joliffe, owner of a five man boat, joins a rescue party to save a doomed merchant ship driven against the Special Cliff. Despite peril, he retrieves an old man clinging to the mast, later delivering the ship’s papers and rings to Hull merchants, earning gratitude and a new start for Joliffe and his family.
