Commissioners Are Busy Men in Manatee County Roads

Manatee County Board of Commissioners meets in Bradentown in June 1918. They approve May road and bridge district estimates for Sarasota Venice Englewood and Palmetto, publish equalization notices, approve contract assignments, bonds, and insurance, and plan drain projects with bids due July 1. The session adjourns to June 4 and then June 10.

Sarasota Earns Accredited Senior High School Status

Sarasota joins 33 Florida schools as an accredited senior high with criteria including 160 day terms, 150 average attendance, 30 plus pupils per four grades, 3 teachers with Florida certificates, a Florida certified principal, 45 minute recitation periods, four academic subjects per pupil, eight rooms, and $200 value in lab and library equipment.

Missionary Society Meeting Hears Report on Council

The regular meeting of the Missionary Society of the Methodist church featured a report by Mrs. Alice B. Willis, delegate to the Woman's Missionary Council. Members urged Mayor Franklin to proclaim daily a moment of homage to the flag and prayer for soldiers, with a whistle signal. The next Liberty Bond social is set for Friday afternoon June 21 with venue to be announced.
