City Water Works Adds Large Aeration Basin
The 100000 gallon reinforced concrete reservoir at the city water works has its bottom completed and is near ready. Beard Construction expects about two more weeks to finish, with water flow to begin in a month. Water will cascade over a trough to aerate and remove gas fumes, aided by a concrete cover and ventilator. The settling basin should remove coloring from shale particles, and a sloped tank with a valve allows complete flushing for a safe clear supply.

Palm Avenue Street Improvements Discussed for Sarasota
Residents south of Malm Street push for upgrades after city installs water and sewer lines. Palm Avenue’s sand foundations and flank to Gulf Stream Drive complicate paving costs. owners on the west side may pay two thirds of brick paving to match fronting upgrades. Proposals consider reuse of Gulf Stream material to add sidewalks on both sides as council plans general sidewalk works. Rising property values echo waterfront appeal, yet broader improvements are needed to remain competitive with other residential streets.

Sidewalk Extension Plans for Main Street Progress
The project to extend all Main Street sidewalks from the bay to the railroad to the curb line is being favorably considered. Several property owners already express willingness to fund the improvement. Palmer-Florida has laid the walk to the curb in front of the post office. The plan argues a busy thoroughfare cannot be kept neat with uncurbed space and that fences would be costly or unattractive. a cement walk would curb trash and wash debris into the street.
