The Board approved minutes and authorized renting the Iverson building west room for one year at 25 dollars monthly with renewal. A contract with the Council for 12.50 per month was approved. Offers to support Sarasota cigar factory and factory site donations were discussed. A committee was formed to stake out channels from Sarasota back to New Pass and Big Pass with up to 60 dollars spend. Plans to reorganize fire department volunteers were approved. Meeting adjourned.

Connecticut Party Celebrates Lincoln Birthday in Sarasota
On a sunny Saturday forty two Connecticuters were driven to the Bromleys cottage on Whitaker Bayou to honor Lincoln's Birthday. A US flag graced the gateway as Rev. G L Thompson presided over a bountiful dinner featuring Connecticut pumpkin pie. Agnes Thompson recited Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, Dr E H Williams spoke on Lincoln the man, Ursula Brainard read a poem, and Dr F H Williams delivered an original Sarasota Bay poem read by Mrs Bell. The gathering praised Sarasota's growth and requested publication of the papers in the Sarasota Times.

The speaker recalls leaving Old Connecticut thirty two years ago and describes Sarasota's beginnings from a small settlement to a growing community. She mentions the Lacey Place, four houses, and the first wild turkeys by the cemetery as well as the Scotch Colony's arrival twenty seven years ago and fortunes of settlers who moved away and returned. Colonel Gillespie supported the town through hard times.

Kingfish Caught Near Pass by Bay Villa Guests
Messrs Raymond and Vose, guests at the Bay Villa with Gus Spencer, caught 14 kingfish in the Pass and Gulf near the Pass on Saturday. The pair, long time guests and noted anglers, claim the trophy as the first to sight and land kingfish this season.

Sarasota Telephone Service Expands as Phones Grow
Mr. W A Lathrop of Braden town, manager of Peninsula Telephone Co, visited this week to oversee growth. The Sarasota exchange now has 160 phones, an 83 percent increase since October, needing three operators and extra line workers for new installs. Sarasota takes pride in its telephone service.

City plans two fire companies after new apparatus arrival
A Hook and Ladder Truck and the Chemical Hose Wagon ordered by the city council for town protection arrived on Monday and will be kept in Turner’s garage on Main Street for now. Two fire companies will be organized at once.

Apostle Tone in College Sermon Draws Mixed Reaction
In the college chapel Bishop X preached an excellent sermon but with a disjointed link to his text. At dinner Professor Y praised the bishop as “Dear old man” and called his talk apostolic for taking a text and preaching everywhere.
