Manasota lawmakers oppose reapportionment plan vote

Three of four state representatives from the area voted against the House reapportionment package in Tallahassee yesterday. Republican Henry S. Bartholomew of Siesta Key, Republican George E. Youngberg Sr. of Venice, and Democrat William Grimes of Manatee County opposed it, with Rep. James Pratt absent but holding a proxy. Bartholomew argued the plan maintains a 15 percent control by small counties and would raise costs for taxpayers.

Cape irs. A Fenech, 36, Mount Vernon, N Y, a WWII bombardier captain, was given life imprisonment for attempting to sell atomic bomb secrets to the Soviet Union for 27500. He tried to deliver a letter to the Russian embassy in Washington last April 5, and was arrested within 24 hours by the FBI. Movement Uncertain Frieda Forms in Atlantic

Rescue Ships Spot Flares Near Stricken Pamir

Two rescue vessels reported seeing flares near the last known position of the dismasted German sailing ship Pamir amid Hurricane Carrie. The SS President Taylor and the Penn Trader radioed New York that flares were spotted about five miles from the Pamir’s initial reported location, as the ship rode a 45 degree list and danger of sinking persisted.

E A Moore 37 of 2887 Oak St was driving home after giving blood at Memorial Hospital when he blacked out and crashed 95 feet into the southwest corner of the Heiser home at 2580 Bahia Vista.
