Grand jury in Bessemer, Alabama indicts New York Times reporter Harrison Salisbury on 42 counts of criminal libel over April articles headlined Fear and Racial Hatred Grip Birmingham. Indictments stem from libel suits by city officials. A minister, Rev. Robert Hughes, testified and was jailed briefly for contempt but released after answering questions.
