Weekend campaigning by nine Sarasota City Commission candidates drew high voter interest as polls opened tomorrow. City records may rise with 4 358 votes counted at closing versus 3 634 last year. Absentee ballots could set a new mark with 21 issued and 13 returned so far. In Group One, incumbent David Cohen faces Walter Blus and Jackson of The Weekly Bulletin. In Group Two six candidates contest one seat including Jack Betz, William Croom Jr., Michael Hinden, noon R Montgomery, Bert L Shepard, and Jerome Stevens the mortician who may attract the Negro vote.

Resort Area Struck In Atlantic City Fire
A pre-dawn fire destroyed the Surfside on Maryland Avenue and leveled multiple nearby hotels in Atlantic City. About 30 people were missing feared dead as flames spread through the six story Stratmore and damaged the Nixon and Imperial hotels. Police, led by Capt. James Dooney and Patrolman Ace Godowski, rescued several guests from the burning buildings.
