A Indian government rail equipment team chief in Kamaishi Japan was found dead in his hotel room during a visit to inspect railway gear. Police said he died by his own hand after a nervous breakdown before dawn.
A mammoth Armed Forces Parade featuring 43 marching and mobile units will highlight the Legion Convention. The parade forms at 2 30 p m on Ringling Blvd and proceeds to Main St and U S 41, with a jet flyover and military displays from Ft Benning and National Guard units.

The Southern Bell Telephone and the Louisville and Nashville Railroad union strikes, started March 14 and affecting over 75 000 workers, ended with a broad settlement. The L and N walkout slowed freight and curtailed passenger service while Bell aimed to resume near normal operations as wage losses mounted and damage reached into the hundreds of thousands. A CIO Communications Workers of America contract decision remains pending for about 40 000 workers.
