Boy Trapped in 10 Inch Well Faces Fading Hope
In Manorville New York seven year old Benjamin Hooper Jr. fell into a narrow 10 inch wide well while playing at home last night. Over 200 rescuers dug a 30 foot wide pit and tunnel through shifting sand to reach him. By 2 a.m. his cries had ceased and officials believed he was dead or unconscious.

Truck Car Crash Fatal To Sarasotan
A 65 year old Sarasota man, Harry T. Alexander, died after his car skidded through the intersection of 12th Street and U S 301 and struck the rear of a tractor trailer driven by Patrick Taylor Powell. Alexander suffered a skull fracture and other injuries and died on arrival at Memorial Hospital. Powell was examined and released after a hearing. The crash left the car demolished and the trailer damaged about $350. Alexander had worked 34 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad and lived in Sarasota since 1955 with his wife Mrs Francis Alexander. He was active in St Martha Catholic Church Holy Name Society Knights of Columbus and the local Eagles Lodge. Survivors include his wife, a son, two brothers, three sisters and two granddaughters. Funeral arrangements are pending. The body is at Teale Brothers Funeral Home.
