Grandmother Saves Infant as Seven Children Die in Stratford Fire
In Stratford seven children under five suffocated as flames engulfed a three story home. Grandmother Rita Martin dropped two month old Samira Martin to safety from a third floor porch. the infant survived. Three and five year olds belonged to Mr and Mrs Claude Martin, two other victims were their children. Father Benjamin Davis collapsed and was hospitalized after identifying the bodies. Medical examiner says carbon monoxide and gases caused the deaths. Firefighters found the grandmother on the rear porch, exhausted by smoke and heat.
