Skies cleared across Florida as Venus neared the crescent moon above the eastern horizon with showers offshore. Forecasters predicted a dry, cool day, with highs near 80 and light winds, while a wider area faced rain and flooding threats from swollen Midwestern rivers and recent tornadoes.
TALLAHASSEE UPI Ralph M. Hartsfield 58 former revenue projects director for the State Road Department died early today after a three year illness with a rare blood cancer. An attorney, he joined the Road Department in 1930 and served as secretary to the board from 1949 to 1953 before leading the revenue projects division. He retired last year.
In Jerusalem, a witness testified that only 12 of 750 Norwegian Jews survived Nazi camps. She recalled her Oslo rabbi husband refused to flee, saying he would not abandon his community in danger.
