UPI reports at the Eichmann trial that Dr Georges Welers of the Sorbonne testified the Nazis devised a torture called the spinning top. In Drancy near Paris inmates including Rene Blum faced a stake ritual run around until collapse as guards beat them.

A 16 month old girl Beck Davis of Englewood was treated at Venice Hospital after reportedly drinking furniture polish. Hospital staff reported she was not breathing on arrival and regained condition with care.
Louise Sevier Giddings Currey, 58, of Lookout Mountain Tennessee, honored as American Mother of 1961. She helped abolish Georgia’s whipping post, fostered hundreds of children, and championed care, housing, and education for delinquent and dependent youths regardless of background.
Federal relief funds become available for some unemployed as a new Kennedy signed law restricts aid to needy families with children. The program aims to reimburse a major share of state relief costs and could involve up to 25 states by mid year.
In Groves Texas UPI reports Dist Atty W G Walley faces a delicate case stemming from a church bazaar at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rev B J Marino is charged with allowing games of chance at the event to raise funds for debt relief. Rev Charles R Johnson of Wheatley Memorial Baptist Church is involved as the related clergyman. Walley notes the case could put him in a tough position no matter the outcome.
Washington (UPI) The Senate Constitutional Rights sub committee opened hearings on a bill to clarify conflicting laws and court rulings on wire tapping. Sen. Sam J. Ervin Jr. said federal laws against the practice have failed to wipe it out.
