Atlanta district manager says service is affected as lines were cut in Alabama and nine Bell Telephone workers join a strike in a union contract dispute. C M Eberhart notes ongoing outages and the strike spans several regions.
Sarasota’s telephone service will not be affected by the CWA strike due to a no strike clause in Peninsular Telephone Co.’s contract with the AFL. Long distance service via Southern Bell is not expected to delay during the strike, according to local manager Taylor C. Scott.
Report describes temporary grounding of the main Atlanta to Birmingham rail line by uninsulated wire and a brief service interruption. Negotiators had been meeting to settle differences and agreed to resume talks, with repairs to affected areas expected within hours after the incident.
