Freedom House selects Sir Winston Churchill for its annual award with acceptance planned by British Ambassador Sir Roger Makins on October 9 in New York.
Our Town comments on State Road Board member Al Rogero plan to replace the Ringling Causeway with a new toll bridge to the keys. An armed PBY Catalina of Nationalist China's Fishing Airlines was damaged by two Communist MIG jets as it neared Matsu Island from Formosa. A U.S. military doctor aboard was wounded but not seriously. The craft landed at Matsu after being hit on the left wing and engine.
Maj. Gen. William C. Chase departs Formosa for home and retirement after four years as chief of the U S Military Assistance Advisory Group. His successor will be Maj. Gen. George W. Smythe.
