Cleveland resident Lund, 35, a WWII veteran and $90 weekly clerk, will share nearly 6 million among siblings. He plans to fly to Sweden to sign papers, set up a trust for his wife and three children, and perhaps buy a motel night club. He has refused to change his modest life, remaining cautious and private.

Helicopter Rescues Navy Pilot From Life Raft Off Florida

President Eisenhower’s task force conducted an air sea rescue after a Navy pilot from Fighter Squadron 31 bailed out near Mayport Florida. Commander J B Tefft was plucked from a life raft 120 miles northeast of Mayport in very good condition. The Valley Forge helicopter from USS Saratoga carried out the lift as Saratoga and 16 ships joined the search for a second pilot whose Demon Jet went down in the Atlantic.

Sarasota Junior High Wins NEWS Trophy

Sarasota Junior High School won the second annual NEWS School Page Trophy for outstanding reporting. Fruitville and other Sarasota County schools were runners up. The award, presented by School Editor Virginia Rankin, honors neat copy, deadlines, and news value from the 1956-57 school year.

House Seeks Compromise On Revision In Florida

In Tallahassee the House planned a move to revive constitutional revision by reconsidering a昨 night vote that junked the revision after a reapportionment clash. Leaders hoped a midterm compromise could emerge after the overnight recess as small county reps pressed to adopt the legislative article while preserving status quo on reapportionment.

Downtown Flood Forces Barricades and Store Losses

Heavy rain flooded Main, 1st, 3rd and State Streets with as much as three inches inside several stores. Police set barricades to protect motorists as merchants moved goods above water. Rain continued into morning with forecasts of more showers. Hudson and Supply Inc. reported 12 inches of water in a 1970 Main building and mud on the floor while the city sewage plant overflowed after 2.57 inches fell. Storm drains delayed a pipe installation at 10th Street and North Trail. May rainfall totals reached 27.69 inches at the treatment plant, far higher than 1956 and other years. Officials blamed clogged drains for part of the flood.

Senate probes heard Max Kralstein a national Bakers Union vice president received about 60000 from a June 1956 Waldorf Astoria banquet in his honor. Joseph Tenczar ex Brooklyn local business agent said employers were pressured to buy tickets and advertise, targeting firms with whom Kralstein bargained on industry contracts.

Train Hits Car Wrecks Nokomis Mother and Daughter

A Seaboard Air Line passenger train struck a 1957 Pontiac at a Nokomis By-Way grade crossing, demolishing the car and injuring Mrs. W. C. Giddens and her daughter. Mrs. Giddens is in critical condition at Venice Hospital. daughter less seriously hurt. The train, led by Alonso C. Jenkins of Tampa, had just left Venice depot at 8 20 a m.
