In London the four day nationwide rail strike devastates industry with 120 ships idle and exports slowed. 750 soldiers and 250 army trucks assist postal deliveries while wage talks stall at 1.12 dollars per week rise demand.

Robert Wall of Albema North Carolina told police he glanced away to prevent a sack of eggs from sliding on the seat and smashed into a telephone pole. The incident occurred early morning, with no word on injuries.
Mrs. Bessie Johnson, 29, was gravely hurt when an out-of-control car plowed into her Detroit home as she swept the living room. Driver Mrs. Minnie Thompson, 68, escaped with minor injuries. Johnson suffered a skull fracture and internal injuries.

Central and northern plains saw thunderstorms with hail and gusty winds as storm systems moved south and east from the Central Plateau and central Rockies. Rain and snow spread across Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, and Nevada, with the Northeast reporting showers including over 1 inch in Burlington, Vermont.

Four American pilots freed from Chinese captivity after more than two years arrive near Hawaii chasing reunion with relatives. Capt Harold Fischer Jr., Lt Lyle Cameron, Lt Col Edwin Heller, and Lt Roland Parks were aboard the Bataan which stopped at Guam before Wake. They celebrate with Western meals aboard and look forward to reunion.
Dag Hammarskjold pressed for the release of 11 American aviators held in Red Chinese prisons after four U.S. airmen were released. The fliers will be housed in Hickam’s VIP section upon arrival in Hawaii and undergo a medical check before five days here. The four prisoners were captured between 1952 and 1953 and accused of intruding into Manchuria.
