David Whitaker a 15 year old from 2205 Philippi Street was struck by a southbound car driven by Leo F Weber 45 at about 450 PM on the South Trail two miles south of the city He suffered a compound fracture of the upper right leg a deep cut on the lower right leg a deep forehead laceration and cuts to the left elbow He was rushed to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in critical condition and authorities said an investigation is ongoing with trooper H O Walters handling details.
Miami mechanic Sterling L. Davis 33 died when his auto plunged into Little River Canal and landed atop a second car belonging to Donald Revels 31 a barber missing since May 25 Divers found Revels inside the wrecked vehicle and identified both cars by license plates Police said both cars crossed fields and went over an embankment before settling in the canal after frantic searches.
A Renault overturned five times on State Highway 780 near New Pass Bridge late last night. Mary Greenhill, 24, of Siesta Key, suffered a severe head injury and was listed in very critical condition. Donald Hullett, 22, driver, was hospitalized with injuries not immediately known. Both were transported by local ambulances to Memorial Hospital.

U S District Judge Albert V Bryan ordered desegregation of Arlington County public schools to begin in September and rejected a request to amend his order to exclude Arlington students from the new pupil placement law. The ruling keeps largely intact the July 31 1956 injunction barring racial admission denials, with minor changes. Virginia Attorney General Lindsay Almond had urged delaying enforcement pending a Supreme Court decision on the placement law.
FBI investigators report an unexploded blasting cap found in the planes washroom after an explosion caused a 4 by 7 foot hole near the tail on the Los Angeles bound flight. Saul Binstock 62 of North Hollywood died in the crash and his body was found in the Victorville desert. An autopsy showed three fingers missing from his left hand.
Guatemala’s newly named successor Luis Arturo Gonzalez Lopez vowed to carry on the anti Communist fight after President Carlos Castillo Armas was assassinated by palace guard Romeo Vasquez Sanchez. A 30 day siege was imposed with curfew and military authority to quell unrest. Odilia Palomo accompanied the slain president as he walked to the dining room when the shots were fired.
A 16 year old was arrested after using binoculars to watch a 13 year old girl then entering her house with a rope a gag and a knife. The father confronted him in the living room and the youth was jailed awaiting a court hearing before County Judge Russell Thomas.
