Sarasota County forms Light Industry Council for plan

The nine member council approved a four point policy and a procedural line and named William L. Hart as vice chairman and Herbert H. Schuster Jr. as assistant. Site costs cited range from 550 to 4000 dollars per acre with building costs for Florida climate around four dollars per square foot. Aimed to attract northern manufacturers, the group will report to the Board of County Commissioners and assemble an industrial plant site listing with aerial photos.

Court Orders Reapportionment Loom as Solons Call Urged

A Florida three judge federal court in Miami ruled the current state legislative apportionment unconstitutional for denying large population areas equitable representation. It set Aug 13 deadline for the legislature to act or the court will impose reapportionment by judicial decree. Governor Farris Bryant cautioned he would study the ruling before deciding whether to call a special session before Aug 18. Big county leaders pressed for an immediate session.

Property Owners Protest Tax Increases on Ringling Land

Three Ringling Boulevard landowners protested city tax hikes ranging from 50 to 624 percent before the Sarasota Board of Equalization. The board will reconvene at the Public Safety Building to hear further evidence and consider their pleas. Included are Prudential Realty parcels west of the shopping center and Ringling frontage from East Avenue to School with Adams Lane back boundary.

Arsenal Found In Cuban Apartment In Miami

Federal agents uncovered a cache of dynamite a machine gun and other weapons in a Miami apartment with a Cuban woman and two men inside. Bodies Missing After B47 Bomber Crash in Montana

Rescue teams at Emigrant Mountain south of Livingston report no bodies found in the burning wreckage of a U S Air Force B47 bomber. An unopened parachute pack was recovered, raising hope that some or all of the four crew members may have ejected before impact.

Blood Is Sought For Train Victims

Authorities appealed for blood for victims of a Paris Marseille express crash near Dilon France. The derailed train sent one car 160 feet into a ravine killing 36 and injuring 48. Injured were taken to a military hospital 150 miles southeast of Paris.
