A Canadian Pacific Britannia airliner crashed and burned near Honolulu International Airport after attempting to land. Twenty-five people were killed, with 15 survivors among 40 aboard. the plane had departed for Sydney and turned back due to mechanical failure.
Mrs. Frank L. Brown and her husband were in a 1961 Volkswagen when an armadillo wandered into West Venice Avenue. Mrs. Brown stopped to help the animal and the car struck a light pole 100 feet east of Armada Road intersection. She was injured and hospitalized while the car sustained about $250 in damage and she was cited for losing control.

Bradenton residents Bill McKechnie and Edd Roush are to be inducted into Baseball's Hall of Fame today at Cooperstown New York. Bob Feller and Jackie Robinson also join the honored quartet at the National Baseball Museum ceremony. About 10 000 fans are expected to attend both the Hall of Fame events and the Doubleday Field exhibition game between the New York Yankees and the Milwaukee Braves after the ceremonies. McKechnie and Roush reside at 3504 Riverview Woodward and 122 North 39th Court West respectively.
