County Commission Names 9 To Light Industry Council
The Sarasota County Commission named nine nominees and a chairman for an eight member Light Industry Council to restart the group after resignations. Nominees come from local chambers, builders, developers, Realtors and Jaycees. A $40,000 annual budget was approved to fund staff and operations.

Youth Committed As Parole Violator
A 16 year old Venice boy was ordered committed to a state care facility after violation of parole. He had been placed on probation in April 1961 for breaking and entering with others on Manasota Key, where a rifle and whisky were taken. Earlier this month a Venice officer charged him with attempting to buy alcohol using a false ID. Judge Graham ordered hold in county jail pending a correctional vacancy.
