Rezoning Petitions Face Strong Opposition at Sarasota Hearings

At Sarasota County Planning Commission hearings Thursday night, the Herwald Corporation faced stiff resistance from Swift Road area property owners over a proposed rezoning of 15 lots in Sarasota Highlands from R2 to R3. The commission also heard L J O Brien seek C1B zoning for a Bee Ridge McIntosh mall project and sub hearing for a continuance.

Shock Kills Visitor To Bradenton

Charles Walter Odell of Cortez Road Bradenton died after an electric fan shocked him while he prepared to leave for the north. Lt. R A Coller and Deputy Jack Key said Odell, barefoot in heat, touched a live fan, fell onto it, sustaining chest burns and a hand burn. Harry W Schmidt found him and pulled the cord causing the fan to restart. Odell, aged, survived by wife Gladys. he had been in Bradenton about a week. Odell’s northern home is Highland Michigan.

Cape Canaveral reports Amer ica’s ninth ballistic missile submarine John Marshall fired two 15 ton Polaris rockets from depths over 80 feet in a test that sent instrumented nose cones to targets 1500 miles away. Informed sources say both missiles succeeded.
